Violet Crown

The Violet Crown Festival was one of my first events last year and still one of my favorites.  It's usually held at a local elementary school park but they moved this year.  I was a little worried about the new location (a new farmer's market) because there is such a great following in the old neighborhood but it was GREAT!  Live music and entertainment all day.  Homemade Popsicles from Mom and Pop Popsicles, amazing vendors, and tons of furry friends to come say hello and play dress up in my booth!

Year One

So much has happened with lizziebees in the past year. I got all my legal papers in April of last year making it an official business.  Started doing shows in May and June.  They were small shows and I was excited to make my booth fees back.  That was a huge deal!

Then summer came and I am not a fan of the heat so I was limited in my opportunities to sell collars.  Pets go outside, you know?  I decided that summers will be my down time.  I can work on wholesale, consignment, business planning, making inventory, etc.  So I booked my next shows for September-December.

During the fall shows, I actually started making my money back and then a bit more.  It was exciting to see people appreciate my hard work.  They recognized me at events, emailed me to make more collars for new pets so they could match existing ones, and even sent me pictures of their pets wearing the collars and playing with the toys.  I managed to buy a new sewing machine.  I now make 4 sizes of collars instead of one, toys for both cats and dogs, and even started making a couple pet beds too.  <-----  My dog stole himself the large one but at least I get to see him enjoy it everyday.

I have a huge notebook that I try and add to constantly; booth ideas, product ideas, patterns, etc.
I have shows lined up 2 a month through May including Renegade Craft Fair!  This one really makes me feel like I'm making progress.  plus you can buy my whole line of collars at Harts n Crafts if you're ever in the Waco area.

As a thank you to all the wonderful people who have bought my product and supported this business over the last year I am offering you 25% off your entire order over the weekend to help me celebrate my birthday as well as lizziebees birthday!!

All you have to do is purchase from my etsy shop and use the coupon code ANNIVERSARY1. easy peasy

Thanks everyone!!

March Madness

Nope, I'm not referring to basketball, I'm talking about crafting!  I had 2 shows already this month which may not seem like a lot to most of you, but since Hubs and I share a car and both have full time jobs as well, it makes things a little crazy.  Most of my sewing gets done on the weekends when I'm not at work and he is, but this month it's been non stop.

First I participated in the Funky Finds Spring Fling!  My little sister came with me to this one and I must say, all those years of selling girl scout cookies has really paid off.  I could walk away for any amount of time and come back to a list of what she sold and accurate amounts of money, including credit card payments!  We were located right next to the pet adoptions and portraits both days so it was great foot traffic (the four legged kind)!

Then the next weekend I was a part of the Cowtown Indie Bazaar!  I had so much fun at this one last year so i was pumped and ready to go.  One of my brothers came along to this one to help me as well.  I do like to be able to go to the bathroom with harassing one of my booth neighbors.  :-)  We headed up there and on the way saw a huge truck flip over on the highway.  It was a tragic and amazing thing to see all at once.  Tragic-I'm not sure how extensive the drivers injuries were but the thing was completely upside down.  The whole highway stopped immediately.  Amazing-Watching complete strangers pull over and rush to the aid of this man.  People were running to help with first aid kits, sleeping bags, water, anything they thought might help while they waited for EMS.  I thought about pulling over as well but it was starting to pile up quick and there were so many people there already.  I didn't want to end up being just another person in the way.  A long stream of cars followed me as well.  I'm hoping that by pushing through I cleared some traffic for more emergency vehicles to get there quickly but I'm still wondering how the driver is...  Once we got to Fort Worth traffic was bad so we headed to set up instead of checking in at the hotel.  Whoops- I was 45 minutes early for set up and had to leave and come back.  I felt like a moron.  After that very rocky start the rest of the weekend went very well.

Now I'm home and am on my staycation.  I've unpacked from both events and made my list of things to make before my next event on April 16th.  Lone Star Ladies Shop Crafty---I've got new booth ideas brewing for this one.

How have your spring crafts been?  Any events you want to share?

Giveaway Time!!

So, I started a facebook fan page last week and just surpassed my start goal of 25 fans.  Yeah me!!  This was my first goal because once I had 25 fans I could set up my username and direct people to my page without having a ton of numbers at the end of my url.  That's just tacky, right?

Anyways, so I have officially reached 28 "likes" as of this afternoon and so my giveaway must begin!!  Entries will be accepted until the end of the day, February 28th.

I have quite the stash of completed collars since I am preparing for Spring Craft Season and am willing to part with any one you would like.  That's right, you get to dress your furry friend in any collar you like!  Once winner is contacted we will work together to find you the perfect fit.  Here's how you can participate.  Each one of these counts as their own entry so you have 4 chances to win!!!

**Once you complete each of these entries you must leave a separate comment on this blog post to be entered**

Don't forget to include your email as well so I can get in contact with you in case you win.  Winner will be chosen by random.org.
Here's a couple examples of comments:

And the list grows

It looks like I'm going to have a very busy Spring Craft Season!!

I'm going to have to buckle down over the next couple weeks to get a large stockpile ready to start me off!  I have added more collar sizes to my current stock, invested in some pet bed forms to make some adorable(hopefully) custom beds, and some new dog toys.  I'm crossing my fingers that the dog toys are a hit since we've just completed our "demo dog" stage and I haven't tried to sell any yet.  Here's a couple shots of them though.

I have some great news as well!!  If you live in the Waco, Tx area, you can now buy my products at Harts n Crafts!  It is the cutest little store and owned by the most amazing woman!  I can't wait to drive up there and buy myself some custom TOMS.

I made a treasury a couple days ago on etsy and found out yesterday morning that it was on the front page!!

I completely missed it, but thanks to craftcult, I can see a screenshot of it at least.  What do you think?

one foot in front of the other

I just applied to Renegade Austin.  Am I completely stupid for thinking my products are good enough to get in, or am I making an amazing move in the right direction?  At least if I don't get in, I have a good chunk of money that will show back up in my bank account in a month or so.

positive thinking is what I need
optimistic pessimism is what I have

In other news-  I made Pickles a pillow out of an old quilt that was rescued from a family member.  It's pretty cute, huh?

2011 Goals

I make resolution after resolution, year after year.  In 2010 I only managed to keep 1.  Husband and I got caught up on our bills yesterday.  Yes, I said yesterday.  It was still 2010.  ;-)

This year it seems better to make some goals instead.

  • Get the new pup, Pickles, to stop pulling me on our walks
  • Trick the cat into accepting her new little brother pup
  • Feel better about my own health
  • Stop resenting my job.  Accept that it is necessary and move on
  • Get a 2nd car so the husband won't have to ride the bus in the a.m. and I won't have spend 12 hours on the road everyday
  • Try to increase my business so I can make a brave transition
There is more I would like to accomplish, but these are the ones that effect me the most right now that I am willing to share out loud.  Perhaps I will add to these goals once I make some headway.
